YAG Capsulectomy

YAG Capsulectomy is a laser-based surgical procedure used to treat posterior capsule opacification (PCO), a common complication that can occur after cataract surgery.

PCO, also known as secondary cataract, involves the clouding of the thin membrane (capsule) that holds the artificial lens in place, leading to blurred or diminished vision. During a YAG Capsulectomy, a specialised YAG (Yttrium-Aluminum-Garnet) laser is used to create an opening in the cloudy capsule, restoring clear vision by allowing light to pass through unobstructed. The procedure is minimally invasive, typically performed on an outpatient basis with no need for stitches, and involves only brief discomfort. Patients often experience immediate improvement in vision following the procedure, making YAG Capsulectomy a quick and effective solution for managing post-cataract surgery complications.
