Keratoplasty

Keratoplasty, commonly known as corneal transplant surgery, is a surgical procedure used to replace a damaged or diseased cornea with healthy donor corneal tissue.

This treatment is typically performed to restore vision in patients suffering from severe corneal conditions such as keratoconus, corneal dystrophies, or corneal scarring. There are various types of keratoplasty, including penetrating keratoplasty (full-thickness corneal transplant) and lamellar keratoplasty (partial-thickness transplant), depending on the extent and depth of corneal damage. The procedure aims to improve vision, alleviate discomfort, and enhance the overall quality of life. Keratoplasty has a high success rate, and advancements in surgical techniques and post-operative care have significantly improved outcomes and recovery times for patients.
