Filtration Surgery

Filtration surgery is a specialized ophthalmic procedure aimed at reducing intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with glaucoma.

The primary goal of this surgery is to create a new drainage pathway for excess fluid in the eye, thereby lowering IOP and preventing damage to the optic nerve. During the procedure, a small incision is made in the eye to allow fluid to drain from the anterior chamber into a filtering bleb, a small bubble-like structure created under the conjunctiva. This approach helps manage glaucoma more effectively, particularly in cases where medications or other treatments are insufficient. Filtration surgery, such as trabeculectomy or tube shunt implantation, can significantly improve vision preservation and quality of life for patients with advanced or resistant forms of glaucoma.
