Corneal Collagen Crosslinking

Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking (CXL) is an advanced ophthalmic procedure designed to strengthen and stabilise the cornea, particularly in patients with keratoconus, a condition where the cornea thins and weakens over time, leading to distorted vision.

This minimally invasive treatment combines the application of riboflavin (vitamin B2) eye drops with ultraviolet (UV) light to reinforce the collagen fibres within the cornea, effectively halting the progression of keratoconus and other corneal ectatic disorders. Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking can help preserve vision and, in some cases, improve corneal shape, reducing the need for more invasive treatments like corneal transplants.
