Retinal Laser Treatment
Advanced Care for Retinal Tears and Diabetic Retinopathy
Retinal laser treatment is a cutting-edge procedure used to address various eye conditions, including retinal tears and diabetic retinopathy.
Book a ConsultationRetinal laser treatment is a non-invasive procedure that uses focused light beams to treat specific areas of the retina.
It's a highly effective method for managing various retinal conditions, particularly retinal tears and diabetic retinopathy.
Discover the Types
1) Laser Photocoagulation for Retinal Tears:
Laser photocoagulation is used to treat retinal tears by creating a seal around the tear. This procedure:
- Prevents fluid from passing through the tear
- Creates controlled laser spots that form an adhesive scar
- Typically takes only a few minutes to complete
- Is minimally uncomfortable and recovery is rapid
2) Panretinal Photocoagulation (PRP) for Diabetic Retinopathy
PRP is a more extensive laser treatment used for diabetic retinopathy. This procedure:
- Treats a larger area of the retina
- Helps prevent the growth of abnormal blood vessels
- May require multiple sessions, usually 2-3 weeks apart
- Can be slightly uncomfortable but is generally well-tolerated

- Highly effective in preventing retinal detachment: For retinal tears, laser photocoagulation creates a seal around the tear, preventing fluid from passing through and reducing the risk of retinal detachment.
- Preserves vision in diabetic retinopathy: In cases of diabetic retinopathy, laser treatment can prevent the growth of abnormal blood vessels and seal leaking vessels, helping to preserve vision.
- Minimally invasive with low risk: The procedure is non-invasive and carries a very low risk of complications. The main risk is a burn to the fovea, which is extremely rare due to safety procedures.
- Quick procedure with rapid recovery: Most retinal laser treatments are relatively quick, often taking less than 30 minutes. Recovery is typically rapid, with many patients able to resume normal activities shortly after the procedure.
- Long-lasting results: The effects of laser treatment are often permanent, though repeat treatments may be necessary.
