A Year in Review: Celebrating OCL Vision’s Success in 2024
How Has OCL Vision Supported Its Patients in 2024?
As the year draws to a close, OCL Vision celebrates the achievements and milestones that have made 2024 a standout year for our clinics. From expanding our treatment options to enhancing patient care, this year has been filled with progress that reinforces our commitment to exceptional eye care. Reflecting on these successes provides an opportunity to acknowledge the dedication of our team and the trust of our patients, both of which are at the heart of our work. Here’s a look back at how OCL Vision celebrates a year of growth, innovation, and commitment to eye health.
Enhanced Patient Experience
A key focus for OCL Vision in 2024 has been the continuous improvement of the patient experience. Our approach prioritises compassionate care, efficient processes, and a supportive environment where patients feel valued and heard. This year, we introduced a range of patient-centric initiatives aimed at streamlining appointments and reducing wait times.
From a brand-new website, to streamlined patient communications, these efforts have helped improve accessibility, ensuring that each patient receives timely and efficient care. Our team is dedicated to making every visit as comfortable as possible, and feedback from patients has reinforced that these improvements are well-received.
Expanding Advanced Eye Treatments and Technology
OCL Vision provides the latest in eye care technology to enhance treatment outcomes and improve patient’s vision. In 2024, we expanded our range of services with the addition of advanced technologies that ensure precise, effective treatment across various eye conditions.
Romesh Angunawela, an OCL Vision founding partner was one of the first to perform EndoArt, in the UK. EndoArt is an innovative treatment involving implanting an artificial corneal endothelial layer to treat corneal swelling. This new treatment offers an alternative to traditional transplant surgery for patients where tissue transplants have a high risk of failure such as complex Glaucoma, or ICE Syndrome, and overcomes the risk of rejection in high risk eyes where previous transplant surgeries may have failed.
Romesh Angunawela was also one of the first Surgeons in the UK to perform CAIRS (Corneal Allogenic Intrastromal Ring Segments) with Keranatural in 2024. This is a transformative treatment for people with keratoconus who achieve poor glasses corrected vision and can avoid the need for a corneal transplant. CAIRS can be combined with corneal collagen crosslinking and offers patients diagnosed with keratoconus the ability to improve their vision and stabilise their cornea.
OCL Vision were the first in the UK to have the Schwind Atos advanced laser systems allowing for SmartSight lenticule surgery, a minimally invasive option for vision correction, with faster recovery times and improved results. This investment in advanced technology underscores our commitment to offering leading treatments that deliver measurable benefits for our patients.
Growth in Cataract and Refractive Surgery Services
Cataract and refractive lens surgeries remain some of the most sought-after services at OCL Vision, and in 2024, we saw a significant increase in demand for these procedures. With enhanced surgical techniques and a dedicated team of experts, OCL Vision has continued to improve outcomes and recovery times for cataract and refractive patients.
OCL Vision were the first in the world to have access to and implant the AI designed new continuous focus Rayner Galaxy lens which is used during cataract and lens replacement surgery. We were also first in London to offer the advanced Hanita Intensity pentafocal lens implant.
We take pride in our tailored approach, providing personalised treatment plans that reflect each patient’s unique needs and goals. The increase in demand for cataract surgery, combined with the availability of advanced intraocular lens options, has enabled us to offer even greater choice and flexibility to patients, resulting in improved patient satisfaction, enhanced visual outcomes and freedom from glasses.
Prioritising Education and Community Engagement
Education and community outreach have always been core values at OCL Vision, and in 2024, we strengthened our commitment to these areas. This year, our team organised several community events and informational sessions to raise awareness about the importance of eye health, particularly focusing on the risks associated with common conditions like diabetes-related eye issues and age-related macular degeneration.
These sessions are designed to empower individuals with knowledge and preventive strategies, encouraging proactive eye care. By prioritising education, OCL Vision celebrates a positive impact within our community, helping individuals make informed decisions about their eye health and encouraging regular check-ups to detect issues early.
Stronger Emphasis on Patient Feedback
At OCL Vision, patient feedback is an invaluable tool for growth and improvement. Throughout 2024, we prioritised listening to our patients, seeking their insights on how we can continue to improve their experience at our clinic. This feedback has played a crucial role in shaping some of our most significant changes, from refining appointment processes to enhancing our treatment rooms.
By actively incorporating patient suggestions, we’re able to create a care environment that genuinely reflects the needs of those we serve. OCL Vision’s success this year is a testament to the importance of listening to our patients and responding in ways that improve their overall experience.
Recognised Excellence in Eye Care
One of our proudest achievements in 2024 has been the recognition of OCL Vision’s excellence in eye care. This year, our clinic received acknowledgements from professional organisations for our commitment to quality and innovation. We were shortlisted for awards in best application of technology, best in leadership and best health outcomes. These recognitions highlight the dedication and expertise of our team and reaffirm our role as a trusted provider of comprehensive eye care in the London area.
OCL Vision is so proud of the ‘Best in Clinical Outcomes’ award it achieved from Laing Buisson in 2024. Laing Buisson commented:
“This submission reflects a positive work environment, demonstrating a deep understanding of individual patient needs and quantifiable good outcomes. It highlighted excellent clinical outcomes, supported by over 15,000 procedures completed with a low complication rate of just 0.49% and no post-operative infections. Overall, it effectively described an outstanding service and a strong commitment to innovation and technology.”
While these accolades are gratifying, our focus remains firmly on providing each patient with the highest standard of care. These recognitions serve as motivation to continue advancing our services and upholding the values that define OCL Vision.
Expanded Training for Our Team
2024 has also been a year of professional growth for the team at OCL Vision. Continuous education and training ensure our team members remain at the forefront of advancements in eye care, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to deliver top-quality service.
Throughout the year, our staff participated in various professional development opportunities, including specialised training sessions and industry conferences. This focus on education ensures that our team can provide patients with the best possible care, leveraging the latest research and techniques to optimise outcomes.
Sustainability Initiatives in the Clinic
As part of our commitment to corporate social responsibility, OCL Vision has implemented sustainable practices within the clinic to minimise our environmental footprint. This year, we introduced several eco-friendly measures, such as reducing paper usage through digital patient records, implementing energy-efficient lighting, and selecting recyclable materials where possible.
These initiatives reflect our commitment to both patient care and environmental stewardship, ensuring that we contribute positively to the community we serve. Sustainability remains a priority for OCL Vision, and we will continue to identify ways to improve our environmental impact in 2025 and beyond.
Preparing for Future Growth and Innovation
Looking ahead, OCL Vision celebrates not only the successes of 2024 but also the exciting opportunities for growth and innovation in the coming years. We are continually exploring ways to enhance our services, expand our treatment options, and leverage new technologies to improve patient care.
The past year has laid a solid foundation for future advancements, positioning OCL Vision as a leader in private eye care. With a focus on quality, innovation, and patient-centred care, we are ready to continue meeting the evolving needs of our patients and adapting to advancements in eye health.
