Anti-Wrinkle Injections: treatment applications and cost
As we age, muscles and skin can lose their elasticity, leading to fine lines and wrinkles. Anti-wrinkle injections work by weakening the muscles treated, and softening lines and wrinkles to give the skin a smoother appearance.

Anti-wrinkle injections work by weakening the muscles treated, and softening lines and wrinkles to give the skin a smoother appearance.
These injections are also effective in treating migraines and managing muscle spasms around the eyelids (blepharospasm) and face (hemifacial spasm). Additionally, they can be used to “lift” parts of the face.
Why have Anti-wrinkle injections
- Frown lines and worry lines: Anti-wrinkle injections treat horizontal forehead lines and vertical lines between the eyebrows, reducing the tired, old, and angry look. This treatment can also alleviate headaches caused by these deep lines.
- Crow’s feet: The fine wrinkles at the outer edges of the eyes, known as crow’s feet, can be treated to reduce their appearance, giving a refreshed look.
- Bunny lines: These fine lines appear when scrunching the nose while smiling or laughing. Anti-wrinkle injections can treat this area discreetly while maintaining natural facial movement.
- Asymmetrical brows or brow ptosis: Uneven or droopy brows can be corrected, resulting in a more youthful look by lifting and smoothing the skin around the brows.
- Blepharospasm and hemifacial spasm: Abnormal muscle contractions around the eyelids and face can be socially embarrassing and interfere with daily activities. Anti-wrinkle injections can temporarily prevent these muscle spasms, restoring normal function.
- Migraine: Anti-wrinkle injections have been an effective treatment for chronic migraines, reducing the need for regular painkillers and improving the quality of life for sufferers.
- Gummy smile: By reducing the muscle action that raises the upper lip, anti-wrinkle injections can treat a gummy smile, resulting in a more natural and attractive smile.
- Bruxism Teeth: Grinding at night can lead to jaw pain and damaged teeth. Anti-wrinkle injections can reduce the activity of the jaw muscles, preventing further damage.
- Golf ball chin: When chin muscles pull too hard, they can create a dimpled or "golf ball" appearance. Anti-wrinkle injections soften and relax these muscles, giving a smoother contour.
Treatment process
Anti-wrinkle injections typically cause minimal discomfort, with the option to numb the area with a local anaesthetic cream beforehand. The effects are not immediate, taking a few days to start working and reaching their maximum effect within two weeks. Results generally last 3 to 4 months, with effects lasting up to 6 months with repeated treatments.

FAQs
What does anti-wrinkle treatment feel like when it starts to work?
You may feel a slight stinging sensation or notice small bumps at the injection site, similar to an insect bite. These bumps fade quickly and should not be massaged. Some patients feel a heaviness or tightness initially, which usually wears off.
Can you drink alcohol after anti-wrinkle injections?
Avoid alcohol on the day of treatment and for 24 hours afterwards to reduce the risk of bruising, swelling, and headaches.
Can you exercise after anti-wrinkle injections?
Exercise should be avoided for at least 24 hours post-treatment to reduce the risk of the anti-wrinkle injections spreading to other facial areas and causing side effects.
How long do anti-wrinkle injections take to work?
Anti-wrinkle injections typically take 3 to 7 days to begin working, with full results visible within 14 days.
